Privacy and cookies

This page says exactly what happens to your data when you use kosova.report. We wrote it from what the platform actually does, not from a template.

What we store when you report

When you send a report we store the category, the municipality, the coordinates of the pin, your description, the photos and the time it was sent. The report gets a number and a private key.

  • Photos are made smaller on your phone before sending, and the location, device and time details that cameras add automatically are removed.
  • Your email is stored only if you choose “With my email”. If you choose “Without my name”, we store no contact details at all.
  • The private key is the only way to see the report later without an email. Don't share it.

Who sees your report

The report is emailed to the department that covers that category in your municipality: the description, the place on the map, the photos and, if you gave it, your email. The department gets a private link to mark the report “being handled” or “resolved”. That link expires after 90 days.

kosova.report staff who check reports see them in the staff panel. Your description, photos and email are never published automatically.

Public issues, thumbs-up and comments

Each report belongs to a public issue, so people can see that a problem was already reported instead of sending it again. Several reports of the same problem are grouped into one issue: you choose this when you report, and staff can group or separate reports later.

  • Until staff check it, an issue page shows only the category, the approximate area (not the exact spot), the dates, the status and how many times it was reported.
  • Staff can then publish a summary they write themselves, the exact place and photos they choose. They leave out names, faces, plates and other personal details.
  • Your name, email, report number and private key are never shown on an issue page.
  • Reports sent before public issues existed stay private unless staff publish them.
  • A thumbs-up is counted once per browser. We store a scrambled code from a cookie, not your name or IP address.
  • Comments and their photos appear only after staff approve them. The name you type is shown with the comment; leave it empty to stay anonymous.

Where the data is kept

  • Reports are stored in the database on the platform's server.
  • Photos are stored in Cloudflare R2, a file storage service. They are not public; only authorised staff see them, and the department through the email. A photo appears on an issue page only if staff choose it, or if it was attached to an approved comment.
  • Emails are sent through SMTP2Go, an email delivery service.

Cookies and what stays on your device

We use no advertising or analytics cookies. There is nothing to switch on and nothing to refuse.

  • kr-locale: a cookie that remembers your language, for one year.
  • kr-voter: a random code, set only when you give a thumbs-up, so the same browser counts once. One year.
  • Staff sign-in cookie: only for staff who sign in to the staff panel.
  • Your browser storage keeps your choice for this notice and your theme (light, dark, high contrast).
  • A report draft, photos included, stays on this device only, until you send or delete it.
  • The report number and key are kept in this browser tab and disappear when you close it.

The map and outside services

Map tiles load from the map provider (OpenStreetMap, unless another provider is set up). The provider sees your IP address, like any site you open. Fonts and the rest of the page load from our own server, with no outside services.
